Judith Heineman and Julie Herrera – “Turning Your Travels into Tellable Tales” 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM Sunday Workshop Session C Everyone brings something back from a trip – if only a memory. These treasured souvenirs are the makings of a unique new story waiting to be told. Choose something from your travels, exotic to mundane; bring it with you; learn to transform your travel experiences into an engaging story to share. Marni Gillard and Paula Weiss - “Creating an Interfaith Youth Storytelling Program “ Along with youth Storytellers: Ilyssa Simsek and Rishi Reddy 1:15 PM- 2:45 PM Workshop Session A Learn how Children at the Well came to be, grew and changed. Hear teens share tales, and hear about their experiences in the program. Brainstorm how you might engage youth and their families to create a dynamic, diverse storytelling group focused on peace and understanding in your community. Catagories- Culture & Community; Education/Youth; Performing Skills; Creating Stories Productions level: All; youth welcome Susanna Holstein (Granny Sue) - Showcase: Introduction to Appalachian Ballads ( Showcase - 60 min. session.) 1:15 PM- 2:45 PM Workshop Session A The ballad tradition is rich with story material. History, important ballad collectors, comparison of British and Appalachian ballads, key sources for ballads, suggestions for developing a ballad into a told tale, listening and performance examples will provide a broad overview of the Appalachian ballad tradition. Mary Stewart – “Gathering at the Table of Life-“ 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Workshop Session D We pass on more than the mashed potatoes when we break bread together. In this fast food world, let’s slow down to explore the stories and rituals of the table -- and remember together what feeds us and makes us human beings. Category- Culture & Community Levels: All (Hudson River Ramblers)- Showcase- “Don’t Tread on ME”-Revolutionary Tales on Bullying and Character ( Showcase - 60 min. session.) 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Workshop Session DDiscover how your own local history, can build character and deal with bullying. Using stories and songs from the American Revolution, The Hudson River Ramblers reveal values you may turn into learning activities in storytelling, schools, libraires and historic sites. Ruth Canonico - Showcase- “Tell them Again for Me” Stories from Scottish (Gypsy) Travelers ( Showcase - 60 min. session.) 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM Workshop Session B Once in a lifetime, we meet someone who lives entirely in the world of narratives; stories and songs that nourish the teller more than food. "The Scottish (Gypsy) Traveler Duncan Williamson generously shared this legacy with the world. "Today I share my meetings and memories of ‘Travelers’ with you. Category- Culture & Community Levels:All Deborah Freedman – Showcase- “Grandma are you with me!” ( Showcase - 60 min. session.) 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Workshop Session D Our time is now. Open to the heart's language, fairy tale, and create a story for the grandchildren, actual or perceived, we love. Give them a gift of story, integrated into their life, bringing a sense of well-being home. Categories- Culture & Community; Creating Stories Levels: All Marion Leeper –“ The Storymat: Rich, Strong and Powerful Stories for Young Children” 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM Workshop Session B Description: Strange creatures, surprising objects, and magical stories appear from the storymat’s pockets. In this hands-on workshop, discover new ways of using props, try out joining-in techniques, re-shape stories to involve and enchant young children. Seriously thought-provoking fun. Bring a small collection of fabrics, toys, natural or found objects if you can. Categories- Education (young children); Culture & Community Levels: All esp. Beginner-Intermediate Presenter: Regina Ress Workshop: “Bilingual Storytelling: Adding Flavor and Fun to your Story” 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM Workshop Session D Deliciously open up your storytelling to the diversity of language that enriches our world. Add flavor and texture that deepens the story experience by adding words and phrases of the original language. Invite your audience to share the language as you share world tales with them.
