Barbara Aliprantis-  Crossing Language Barriers With Your Hands-    

1:15 PM- 2:45 PM          Workshop Session A

The rich visual accompaniment of American Sign Language lexicon adds depth of expression and understanding to any spoken story -- for all ages, even with perfect hearing. Come ready to play games to increase visual awareness, learn some signs, and leave with hands full of storytelling tricks that work with all populations.

Leeny Del Seamonds- “Master Coaching with Leeny Del Seamonds”

 1:15 PM- 2:45 PM          Workshop Session A 

Bring stories to life with one-on-one coaching for all levels. Develop believable characters with depth and distinction and use body movements/mime, gestures, and vocal variety to breathe life into stories and keep them tight. Three storytellers chosen by lottery will present up to a 10-minute story or excerpt. Listeners welcomed!

Regina Ress- “Bilingual Storytelling: Adding Flavor and Fun to your Story” 

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM             Workshop Session D 

Deliciously open up your storytelling to the diversity of language that enriches our world. Add flavor and texture that deepens the story experience by adding words and phrases of the original language. Invite your audience to share the language as you share world tales with them. Yummy storytelling!

Michael Parent – “Mentoring- One Possible Approach” 

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM             Workshop Session D 

This participatory workshop, for all levels of storytellers, will include demonstration, exercises, and role playing, introducing an approach to the mentor-mentee relationship. Attendees will gain a practical method of mentoring or being mentored. Handouts will be available and participants should come ready to try things.

Bob Reiser- “Mind-Movies  (Envisioning your Stories with New Eyes)

Cris Riedel – “You GOT ‘Em!  Now FIND ‘Em!  Discovering Your Character Voices “  

 1:15 PM- 2:45 PM          Workshop Session A

Character Voices, those magical additions to story. Everybody can find them! My discovery voice work begins in technique and moves into imaginative play that leads to realization of what your voice can do. You’ll come away with specific techniques and exercises to use in your story art right away.

Jeff Gere - In Your Face!

If EYES be the window to the soul’ then FACE is soul’s yard, welcome mat & front door. With over 200 muscles, the storyteller’s face is a tool traveling the emotional landscape of a story’s psychological terrain. The views are vivacious, the glances gleeful & grim, mugs mirthful and melancholic. Jeff Gere’s facial aerobics lead theater games, improvisations, and stories exploring the subtlety, range and power of FACE.

Cindy Rivka Marshall –“ What a Character! Portraying Characters With Your Body and Voice”

 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM        Workshop Session C 

Learn a method for creating clear, specific characters. We will loosen up body and voice to allow characters to come through gesture, walk, vocal patterns and facial expressions. Come work on a character from a story you already tell, or choose a new one on the spot. For all levels.

Jean Armstrong Character Voices That Don’t Damage Yours! 

 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM        Workshop Session B

Are your favorite character voices silencing you? Are you experiencing vocal blow out with certain stories? Learn strategies to reduce damaging vocal techniques while not sacrificing your artistic interpretation! This voice care workshop emphasizes troubleshooting for your character voices. The participants will explore vocal flexibility that preserves the storteller’s voice in guided exercises led by voice therapist and storyteller, Jean Armstrong. Bring your vocally demanding stories and characters for coaching and small group work.

“How Do I Begin? An Introduction to Storytelling”

Storytelling: How do I Begin? Does storytelling fascinate you? Ever wish you could tell stories but not sure how to start? Join Jeanne Donato and Audrey Daigneault in playing interactive storytelling games that build confidence. Learn how to find, polish, and tell stories. Come willing to share with other first-timers!

Robin Bady –“Whose Story Is It Anyway?”

Whose story are you telling and how does that choice inform the stories you tell? Through physical and vocal characterizations, we will explore different points of view and discuss how they influence the story. Finally, we will talk about choosing the narrative voice. Remember:Who tells the story rules the world.

John Porcino – “How to Tell a Darn Good Story

10:45 AM – 12:15 PM   Sunday  Workshop Session C 

This is an experiential “playshop” in which participants are guided through the process of finding, learning, building and polishing stories for telling. The emphasis will be on finding the creative voice in each of us. Participants leave with at least one new story and a template for creating many more.

Jackson Gillman - “High-Performance Coaching”

10:45 AM – 12:15 PM   Sunday  Workshop Session C 

Have a story you know is roadworthy, but still sputters in places? Bring it into Jackson’s Bard & Body Shop! Specializing in: hammering out dents, parts replacements, lubrication, fine tune-ups. Jackson will offer tips for better spark and traction, helping you get that number up and running like a charm.

Bill Ratner- “ Voiceovers for Storytellers – Find Your Best Storyteller Voice

 1:15 PM- 2:45 PM          Workshop Session A

We discuss methods of seeking employment in voiceovers, producing your own voiceover demos, setting up a home recording studio, and recording a story CD. We practice a vocal warm-up, read voiceover and story text aloud, and address new ways of using your voice in storytelling.

Marni Gillard and Paula Weiss  - “Creating an Interfaith Youth Storytelling Program “

Along with Youth Storytellers:  Ilyssa Simsek and Rishi Reddy

Learn how Children at the Well came to be, grew and changed. Hear teens share tales, and hear about their experiences in the program. Brainstorm how you might engage youth and their families to create a dynamic, diverse storytelling group focused on peace and understanding in your community.

Priscilla Howe –“Going Deep: Telling Tales of Epic Proportions”

Hungry for depth, substance, and a rich, tasty story experience? Long traditional stories can be a hearty feast in a fast-food two-minute world. We’ll look at why and how to choose, research, prepare and tell stories of epic proportions, the taproot of modern storytelling For intermediate and advanced storytellers.

Robert Smyth- Sound System Basic’s – XRL or 1/4 inch what’s the difference?”

1:15 PM- 2:45 PM          Workshop Session A

Being a good performer requires knowing how to work with microphones and a sound system. We will cover the basics of sound reinforcement including microphone types, nomenclature, and how they are best used.

There will be time for each participant to work with different microphones, for voice and instruments, and learn about them.

Julia Morris -  “Journeys Through Narrative; Stories That Move and Sing” 

1:30 PM – 3:00 PM             Workshop Session D 

Join Julia M. Morris, a storyteller with Early Stages, Inc., as she moves you through the settings and imaginative terrain of various tales. In this interactive workshop, participants will employ the modalities of body, voice and imagination to enter, live inside, and extend the experience of story. Detailed hand-outs provided.
